God Is Under Attack
In March 1775 Patrick Henry said,
“I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!”
That last phrase, “Give me liberty or give me death,” became a battle cry for colonial minutemen. Multiple Virginia militia marched with banners embroidered with “Liberty or Death,” and some sewed the battle cry on their shirts. Ultimately, many gave their life to this cause.
Today, something infinitely more precious than liberty is under attack. Yahweh, the one true triune God is under attack from every possible angle. Satan, demons, the sinful world, and our own flesh are warring against the existence, attributes, character, salvation, Word, and church of God.
A specific area that the forces of evil are attempting to annihilate is marriage. Marriage is not a social construct. It is God’s precious creation (Gen. 1-2). It is so precious that God calls it, in 1 Peter 3:7,
“the grace of life.”
In other words, marriage is an undeserved gift from God to mankind. But Satan, demons, our culture, and our own sinful hearts have beaten this gift to a pulp.
Picture the most heart-warming gift you got this past Christmas. Do you see it in your mind’s eye? Now picture your neighbor walking into your house, throwing your gift on the ground and stopping on it in an obsessive and obscene manner. Now picture that same neighbor screaming constant obscenities about the person who gave you the gift. That is a minuscule taste of what evil has done and is doing to marriage. It has been so beaten down that there is a divorce every 42 seconds in the U.S. It’s been so twisted that 61% of American adults believe same-sex marriage is good for society.
This is a scandalous attack on the Triune God. The question is, what are you going to do about it? Are you going to sit on the side-lines and let God’s gift be trampled on your marriage or the marriages around you? Or, are you going to armor up and fight for “the grace of life” that God has blessed humanity with?
It does not matter if you are single, married, widowed, or divorced. If you are a believer, God’s gift is being trampled on. Out of love for God we need to take a stand for God. We need to put on the full armor of God and fill the air with the battle cry, “For God’s glory!” and fight for marriage.
Please do three things this week.
- Pray for the marriages of FBC. That every marriage would experience victory for God’s glory!
- Pray over your resolve to cherish, proclaim, and stand firm for the truth of marriage.
- Pray for the FBC Marriage Summit! That this would be used by God to grow singles, married, widowed, and divorced individuals in their knowledge, love, and resolve to stand firm for God’s gift of marriage.
