The True Source of Happiness

BeEncouraged14

IT’S NO SECRET! We all tend to want more out of life. That feeling of “lack” can be so depressing. We can go on Facebook or any other social media source, scroll down the memories of others, and feel like we are missing out on so much everyone else seems to have plenty of. And sometimes to cope with this we try to fill our life with “post-worthy” activities or thoughts.

But the Bible tells us the true source of good and plenty. In Proverbs 3:9-10 it says, “Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the first fruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.” Now remember, this is not saying that if you put your ten percent in the offering plate every week your bank account will all of a sudden be filled to the max giving you complete satisfaction. Absolutely not.

First, the satisfaction a bank number brings is short lived.

Second, if this verse was a promotion of the prosperity gospel, then Jesus and almost every prophet we see in the scriptures would be absolute failures.

Jesus and the majority of prophet’s bank accounts where filled with next to nothing. So what is this telling us? It’s telling us that if we want a good and plenty life then our priorities straight. God needs to be number one, given first-place.

The number one of our finances, thoughts, talents, hobbies, schedules, relationships, etc. Just think of how useless a hobby is if it is not first done for the Lord. It’s hours of heart and time put into something that may be temporarily lucrative but in the end it burns. Yet just think if that hobby were done with God as the priority. Our ETERNAL barns and vats will be filled with plenty to enjoy now and forevermore.

Today, be encouraged. God has made good and plenty available by simply making Him our priority in all things.
