Where is our Hope

“Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord, and my right is disregarded by my God”?  Have you not known? Have you not heard?  The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.

He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.  He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

~ Isaiah 40:27-31

In Israel’s distress, the reminder of the prophet Isaiah is piercing.  It’s almost as if he says, “have you forgotten who God is?  Do you remember what God has done?”  It is easy to forget, in the midst of suffering, what God has already brought us through.  He doesn’t sleep, so he knows everything you’re going through.  He gives power and strength to us when we are at our weakest.  Through the Lord, we are brought from the depths to the heights, as the prophet makes clear through the illustration of the eagle which is an example of strength, hope, and endurance.

The Gospel is such that it reveals to us our weaknesses, yet it allows us by faith in Christ to be made new.  The Gospel reveals today what the prophet Isaiah revealed over 2,500 years ago.  The people of Israel were looking to everything else in the world to lift them up, to help them find life and joy.  However, Isaiah’s reminder finds its foundation in the Gospel that we believe.  If you are downtrodden, I would ask if you’ve forgotten who God is?  Remember…His is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.  Through Christ, by trusting Him in faith, you can find life and find it abundantly.  By choosing, however, to trust in the world, you are choosing weakness, exhausted, and broken.  By Trusting in Christ, you will be strong, you’ll be able to withstand and endure the schemes of the enemy, and you will find abundant life in Christ.  Trust in Him!

Be Encouraged!
