We Were Made For This

“We were made for this!”.  Have you ever heard someone say that? Have you ever said it yourself? When I was a teacher, my fellow colleagues used to say it all the time.

When money was tight, when the students were acting like demons, when the staff meetings were going long – that statement would inevitably come up as a motivating rally cry to remember why we were teachers and to give it our all.

Well, if we trust in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we have been made new!  2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” And this “made new” life comes with, a new “I WAS MADE FOR THIS!” 2 Corinthians 5 continues in verses 18-20 saying, “All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to Himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making His appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

As believers we have been reconciled with Christ and given the blessed mission to share the message of reconciliation, the Gospel of Jesus, with the world!  That is our, “We were made for this!” rally cry!

Listen.  My disillusionment with Christianity comes most often when I forget this.  When I focus on everything aside from sharing the gospel, life is just a big miserable hamster wheel that I keep pushing day after day and get nowhere.   But when I remember what Christ made me for and to share the Gospel with unbelievers and believers, joy overwhelms my soul.   Real and lasting victory comes with every step.

FBC! We have been made new!  And we have been made by God to share the message of reconciliation.  That is the good news of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.  Let’s do what we were made to do and experience the joyful life God intended for us!
