Who Are You Listening To?

“The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts.”
~ Psalm 46:6

You are undoubtedly hearing many voices right now. Social media and news outlets are rife with opinions, comments, so-called “facts”, and keyboard warriors who believe everyone else is wrong (or right if people agree with them). However, the solution to our problems aren’t going to be solved by pundits arguing what is “right.”  The solution to our problems isn’t going to come by seeing who has the most convincing argument in the comment thread on Facebook.  Frankly, we don’t have a proper understanding of what the real problem is let alone understanding a solution to it.

Psalm 46 gives us insight to the problem and a solution to that problem. Corona virus, though a legitimate issue to be taken seriously, it is not the ultimate problem that faces humanity today. Covid-19 should serve as a reminder of just how fragile life really is. THAT is the problem; Life is fragile! This is where we should find comfort in the scriptures. Psalm 42:2-3 says this:

“Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.”

2 Peter 3:10 explains that this earth and everything in it will eventually cease to exist; it will be “burned up and dissolved.”  God, however, in his mercy and grace gives us hope amidst the that truth. The Psalmist goes on to say in verses 4-5:

“There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns.”

God is always with His people. He is the one who makes us glad. His voice is the one that calms the raging sea and brings peace to the chaos:

“The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; HE utters his voice, the earth melts.”

Brothers and sisters, there is only one voice you need to hear today. It isn’t found on your favorite news outlet; it’s not that one person on twitter that makes the wittiest tweets; it’s not even the voice of our government leaders. It is the voice of the Lord, and He speaks to us, right now, TODAY, in His Word.

Dear Christian, don’t neglect your time with the Lord in His Word. This world can offer you no hope, only opinions, “facts,” and commentary. The Word of the Lord, however, has stood the test of time and remains true. He speaks to us today and invites us to come and fellowship with Him. Where media creates anxiety and fear, I find that God’s Word quells my fears and gives me peace. This earth and everything in it will one day pass away, but by faith we will live forever with Christ. He is always with us, leading us and guiding us by His Word. So then, let’s remain faithful to Him, giving our time and attention not to the things of this world, but to the God who created this world and who will one day redeem it. Remember…

“The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.” ~ Psalm 46:7
