Our plans, God’s plans

When I woke up on Monday, I had a plan.  I was going to get to the office early, have my devotions, finish this article by 7 a.m. and get an early start on writing the Mid-Week Boost and my Sunday sermon.  Well, I got to the office early, but I forgot my computer at home.  No big deal.  I began to make my way back home.  But as I closed my office door behind me, I reached into my pocket for my keys and they weren’t there.  They were in my office.  I reached for the office door and of course, it was locked.  I’m not going to lie; I was just a little annoyed at this point.  But then I remembered that there was a spare key for my office door.  Relieved, I went to get the spare and it wasn’t there.  AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!  Have you ever had a day like that?  A day where all your beautiful plans are thrown out the door?
Today you may be feeling that way regarding the corona virus.  For a couple weeks now, and what looks like the rest of April, all our plans have been altered.  Spring break getaways, Easter traditions, School schedules, daily routines and all our work plans have been radically changed.   And the whole thing can be so frustrating.
But in Proverbs 16:9 we find reason to be encouraged.  It says, “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.”  We may plan and things may not go our way, but they are still going God’s way!  Sure, you may think your plans are better, but He knows ALL things (Ps 147:5).  If our knowledge were a grain of sand, His would be the size of the Milky Way galaxy and then some.  Sure, you may not see immediately why God is directing your steps in a certain direction. But if you are a believer in Jesus Christ, you can take joy in the fact that He is “working all things together for good.”
Today, be encouraged.  Even when things don’t go our way, they are still going God’s way!
