If I just had more money

IF I JUST HAD MORE MONEY!  The corona virus is making the financial markets to go haywire, keeping millions from going to work, and throwing once certain retirement plans into serious question.  Many have laughed at the words of Proverbs 23:5 (“For riches certainly make themselves wings; They fly away like an eagle toward heaven” NKJV).  They thought their financial plans were secure and the words of Scripture a laughable old wise tale.  But they’re not laughing now.  The unpleasant truth of Proverbs 23:5 is ringing truer than ever.
But with that unpleasant truth I want to remind you of a wonderful truth.  A truth Jesus shared to a people who often didn’t know where their next meal would come from and recorded in Matthew 6:25-34.
“Therefore, I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?  Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore, do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” (NKJV)
If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, the current financial crisis does not spell your doom.  Just as God clothes the lily of the field and faithfully feeds the sparrow, he will provide His children with exactly what we need.  Maybe not what we want, but exactly what we need.
Thus, as a believer in Jesus, this financial crisis does not have to keep you up at night or fill your thoughts with heavy burden.  No, in all things you can seek closer and closer relationship with Him (cf. Matt. 6:33) and trust that He will provide.
Today, turn off the news that is filling you with fear and praise the God you know will provide.  Praise the God that holds you and in His sovereign arms and will always give you exactly what you need to live for Him.  Take out a hymnal or go to YouTube and find a song you can worship to.  Take out your Bible and grow in your relationship with the one who’s rescued you from the hell you deserve and is guiding you to ultimate victory (Rom. 8:28, Revelation 21).  Be encouraged! We can stop worrying over what God has promised to provide and instead give Him thankful praise He deserves.
