A CALL TO PRAISE

Last Sunday (10/23/2016) we took a break from our Philippians Series and dove into Psalms 150 which is all about, as the first line says, praising the LORD!  And when we came to the first line of verse two (Praise Him for His mighty acts…) we discussed our salvation.  How God the Son, in His mighty humility came to this earth, lived a perfect life, died on the cross for our sins and then rose from the grave so that if we believe in Him we might have eternal life!

Today I want to discuss another mighty act of the LORD.  It’s one he is performing every day everywhere in the universe.  It’s one that is so pervasive in our daily lives, yet we often fail to stop, think about, and praise Him for.  It’s His sustaining sovereignty that invigorates and moves everything.  Colossians 1:17 says, And He (God the Son) is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.  Think about that for a moment.  The word all in that verse means all, as in every atom in the universe.  Your eye, through which your seeing and reading this article, is held together by Christ.  Your house isn’t held together by nails, screws or bolts.  Christ is holding each and every atom together that makes up those nails, screws or bolts.  Christ is holding up your home.  Christ is holding together this earth, this solar system, everything in this universe.  I love the story of Hezekiah when he asked God to move the sun 10 degrees backward (Isa 38:8).  God did it without even a second thought.  Why, because he’s the one holding this solar system together and making if function.  God also stops the sun for Joshua in Joshua 10:13.  So often when we look up at the night sky and see the stars we praise the laws of physics for holding them in their place when all those laws do is describe their position and movement.  God is the one holding them together and in their place and path.

Today, look at what is around you and praise God.  Every item is being held together by God.  Then once you finish praise Him again.
